Dicrocoelium

This medium sized (about 1 cm long) liver fluke has a slender body with a shouldered outline. The large oral sucker is at the anterior (top) end. The acetabulum is located on the midline near the shoulder. The intestinal ceca are barely visible on both sides of the acetabulum. Two large purple testes are located diagonal to one another, just behind the acetabulum. A small ovary is located behind the posterior testis. The long, egg-filled uterus coils from the ovary to the posterior of the body, then anteriorly, between the testes, to the genital pore which is located anterior of the acetabulum. The vitellaria are in lateral fields in the central 1/3 of the body.
