Alaria canis adult

This specimen, which is about 5 mm long, has a large fore-body and a small hind-body. Two long, pointed pseudosuckers are at the anterior end of the fore-body. There is a small oral sucker with a larger pharynx immediately behind it. The tribocytic organ is an elongate red oval, about half the length of the fore-body. A small acetabulum is visible midways between the pharynx and the anterior margin of the tribocytic organ. Vitelline follicles fill the post-acetabular portion of the fore-body.

The ovary and testes are present in the hind-body but there margins are not distinct in this photo. The location of the uterus is outlined in a few places by the small eggs within it.
