Diplostomum

The body is in two parts, both of similar size. There is an anterior fore-body and a posterior hind-body. The two are separated by a slight constriction. Body length is about 5 mm.

To the top left of the photo is the fore-body. At the anterior tip is a large oral sucker followed by a smaller but very muscular pharynx. On both sides of the pharynx are the darkly-staining pseudosuckers. At the back of the fore-body is a large, round structure with dark margins. This is the tribocytic organ. The red circle about 1/4 the distance between the tribocytic organ and the pharynx is the acetabulum. Lateral to the tribocytic organ are fields of brown-staining vitelline follicles.

Two large eggs can be seen clearly in the hind-body; one near the middle and one at the posterior end. If you look closely you can also see a number of eggs in profile between the two prominent eggs. These are contained within the uterus. The only other structures visible in the hind-body are two large testes. They are as wide as the hind-body. The anterior one fills the hind-body anterior to the first egg, and the second one fills the field between the two eggs. The ovary and other reproductive structures are obscured by the testes. This is typical for this and many related species.
