Fasciola adult

These large (about 5 cm long) flat flukes have an oval body shape with distinct "shoulders" and an anterior projection. Dense lateral and posterior fields of vitellaria are present. The acetabulum is prominent, located on the midline of the body at the shouldered area of the body outline. Intestine, ovary, uterus and testes in this species are all highly branched and are difficult to identify at low magnification. Just posterior to the acetabulum are the dark coils of the uterus and ovary. The finely branched structures posterior to that are the two tandem testes. The larger branched structures visible around the mouth and extending to the posterior vitelline fields are the intestinal ceca.
