Echinostoma female anatomy

This enlargement of the female reproductive system shows the area between the black-egg-filled uterus, on the top, and the anterior testis, at the bottom. The ovary is large, round and dark-staining. The small, bright red oviduct is visible for a short distance posterior to the ovary. Just posterior to the ovary are some coils of uterus overlaying the seminal receptacle. The vitellaria on the two sides of the body can be seen to be composed of numerous, small round follicles. Two angled vitelline ducts travel from the vitellaria to the region of the seminal receptacle. The region where the seminal receptacle, uterus, oviduct and vitelline ducts meet is called the ootype. It brings spermatozoa and oocytes together along with nutritive materials to be packaged into eggs which are then transported away by the uterus.

The large, red canals that parallel the sides of the body just medial to the vitellaria are the intestinal ceca. A slender vas efferens can be seen emerging from the left side of the testis.
