We are attempting to resolve key uncertainties around the mechanistic link between developing human footprint and the forest invasion of three important vertebrate species (white-tailed deer, coyotes, and cowbirds). Our goal is to determine if the mechanisms act at local or regional scales, and how these community changes affect caribou and forest bird population dynamics. The findings will be used to modify important relationships in Integrated Landscape Management Models and to guide management actions relating to habitat restoration and the conservation of native species.
