Research Interest:

His work deals with fossil plants from the Eocene (~45 million years ago) of Vancouver Island 's East Coast, just south of Campbell River . The plants are preserved in three dimensions. He studies them anatomically and, when possible, reconstructs their external form.

He works predominantly with fossil nuts of Fagaceae , the very family that has given us beech nuts, chestnuts, acorns. He also works on fossil flowers of Platanaceae , the sycamore family.
