Affiliations: Research Group for Arctic Parasitology, Department of Veterinary Microbiology, University of Saskatchewan

Research interests and projects: My thesis work investigated the ecology and effects of a newly discovered host-parasite relationship, the protostrongylid muscleworm Parelaphostrongylus odocoilei in thinhorn sheep (Ovis dalli). My current research interests include application of molecular techniques to identify and characterize parasites of wildlife, in order to describe the geographic distribution, genetic structure, and biogeography of hosts and parasites. As well, I am interested in identifying ecological factors that lead to the emergence or resurgence of wildlife diseases. This includes using empirically-derived and validated models to project the effects of climate warming on development and transmission of parasites. I also hope to explore the effects of pathogens and other stressors, including contaminants, on the health of wildlife in the Circumpolar North, especially those that influence the health of domestic animals and humans. I instructed the Veterinary Parasitology course at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001 and 2005.
