09/24/2014: BASL is now accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 for Total Mercury in Water and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Water!



09/04/2014: New instrument! BASL Laboratory welcomes the new Direct Mercury Analyzer DMA-80 from Milestone. The new DMA-80 allows easy and direct analysis of mercury in both water and solid matrices.

07/30/2013: BASL Laboratory did well in the March 2013 Proficiency Test study organized by Canadian Association for Laboratory Accreditation (CALA).

11/29/2012: BASL Laboratory did well in the October 2012 Proficiency Test study organized by Canadian Association for Laboratory Accreditation (CALA). BASL is also newly proficient in Full-range metals analysis in water, Mercury analysis in water, and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in both water and soil.

05/24/2012: BASL Laboratory did well in the 2012 Interlaboratory Comparison Study for Total Mercury organized by Brooks Rand Labs.

04/01/2012: BASL Laboratory did well in the March 2012 Proficiency Test study organized by Canadian Association for Laboratory Accreditation (CALA).

The University of Alberta BASL Laboratory (BASL) was established in the 1980s as a premier global research, teaching and service facility. We provide cost-effective chemical analytical services in environmental, ecological and medical disciplines for University researchers, government agencies and private sectors.

The BASL is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 for specific tests by Canadian Association for Laboratory Accreditation (CALA), an accreditation body in Canada to ISO/IEC 17025.  The lab has the capability to provide inorganic, organic, low level mercury, and stable isotope ratio analytical services. Our lab is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation located in a 550 square meter facility in the Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Science (CCIS).
