FIRST CIRCULAR

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The memorial meeting dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the outstanding Russian palaeichthyologist Dmitry V. Obruchev is planned to be held in the Palaeontological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, on 13-16 MARCH, 2001.

Dmitry Obruchev is renown for his prominent contribution to the world palaeontology and creation of a school of palaeoichthyologists. His research was dealing with a wide range of Palaeozoic vertebrate studies on evolution, morphology, phylogeny, systematics, histology and biostratigraphy.

The Obruchev Symposium is aimed at emphasising current problems of Palaeozoic lower vertebrate evolution. A plenary session, a wide poster session and a workshop with the collections are planned. In order to proceed with the organisation of the meeting you are requested to return a reply to this circular as soon as January 1, 2001.

COSTS AND ACCOMODATION

Registration costs are planned to be reduced to a minimum. Approximate registration fee will be around $80-100, housing about $35-50. This will include an information package, coffees and transport expenses, opening party and other expenses. Hotel booking, if not requested otherwise, will be provided by the Organizing Committee in the Russian Academy of Sciences hotel.

OFFICIAL LANGUAGE

Official languages at the Symposium are English and Russian.

SYMPOSIUM PUBLICATIONS

An abstract volume will be published. A symposium volume is also planned as a post-meeting publication. Instructions for the abstracts will be sent in the second circular, to be issued in January 2001.
