III International
Meeting on Mesozoic Fishes
- Systematics, Paleoenvironments and Biodiversity -
August 26-31, 2001
Serpiano (TI-CH)
Dear Collegues, the new century is near and with it our
first mesofishes meeting of the third millennium. More than 70 researchers
have sent their preliminary registrations, covering all the aspects of
the Mesozoic Fishes. We are working hard to rise founds to help some people
to come to Serpiano and to make your stay there as nice and interesting
as possible.
Dates are fixed: as supposed in the first circular the meeting will start
on August 26 with the registration and possibly a first event in the afternoon.
Owing the the high number of oral communications announced, we will have
25 minutes speaches (comprising the discussion) in five days of scientific
sessions. Short excursions are programmed for two half and one complete
afternoon to visit the close-by localities in which excavations are still
going on as well as the local museums with collections of fossil from
the Besano-Monte San Giorgio area. The social dinner will be on the top
of the Monte Generoso (1700 m.a.s.l)., but in a restaurant!, going up
and down by 45 minutes of rack-railway and with the possibility of visiting,
before the dinner, a cave bear excavation in a near cave with touristic
access.
Visa
For those who need visa, remember that the meeting is in Switzerland,
but we will go also in Italy for one excursion, so remember to ask for
multiple entrances for both Italy (if you will arrive through Italy) and
Switzerland as this latter country does not belong to E.U. If you need
an ufficial invitation, please ask as soon as possible.
Accomodation
All of us stay at the Hotel Serpiano, which is isolated near the top of
the Monte San Giorgio. Remember that there is no other possibility of
accomodation, so please send your final registration as soon as possible.
Last minute booking could be impossible. We will keep the contacts with
the Hotel, so as we receive your registration form, we book for you (one
day deposit is asked).
Very special price for our meeting is SFr 105.00/day for bed, breackfast
and lunch in double room (single room add SFr 20.00). We hope that most
of the dinners will be offered by local communities, museums or other
sponsors.
Travel
To reach Serpiano you can use Milano-Malpensa or Lugano-Agno airports
or, if you come by train, Lugano or Chiasso stations. From each one of
these points buses can easily reach Mendrisio and then Serpiano. However,
you will receive an offer from a Travel Agency from Lugano (I Giovani
Viaggi) regarding flight+transport to Serpiano.
Climate
At the end of August we have usually still warm summer wheather. However,
the Hotel Serpiano is at 650 m.a.s.l. and the evening could be fresh.
Wind and showers may happen. Also, bring something heavier for the social
dinner. Field shoes will need for visiting both the excavation sites and
the bear cave on the Monte Generoso.
Abstracts
Abstracts should be send, possibly by e.mail, to andrea.tintori@unimi.it
as attached in MS-Word style. Each abstract must not exceed one page (interline
1, character Times New Roman 12). Only line-drawings will be accepted.
Please specify if the abstract is for a speach or a poster.
N.B. REMEMBER THAT IN ITALY AND IN CANTON TICINO AUGUST IS A HOLIDAY
MONTH, SO PLEASE RESPECT THE DEADLINE BECAUSE WE WILL HAVE EVERYTHING
READY ONE MONTH BEFORE THE MEETING
Proceedings
As for the previous two meetings, Vergal dr.F.Pfeil will publish the proceedings.
Andrea Tintori and Gloria Arratia will be the editors. Please follow the
guidelines for the previous volumes or ask for them directly to Friedric
Pfeil 100417.1722@compuserve.com. All author are
kindly requested to compact as much as possible their papers as publishing
costs are very high.
