- Systematics, Homology & Character Definition -

August 2005

THIRD CIRCULAR

FOURTH INTERNATIONAL MEETING ON MESOZOIC FISHES - SYSTEMATICS, HOMOLOGY, AND CHARACTER DEFINITION

MIRAFLORES DE LA SIERRA, MADRID, SPAIN

AUGUST 8th-14th, 2005

Madrid, March the 14th, 2005

Dear friends,

This is the Third Circular for the next meeting on Mesozoic Fishes. This circular deals mostly with the calendar of the meeting and the payment of the inscription fees.

Detailed information on the Scientific Program is not available yet, because a number of confirmations and even abstracts is still due.

You probably remember that the deadline for submitting your extended abstract was delayed until March, the 15th. This is today. Since a number of you have not submitted the abstract yet, the final, very very final deadline is delayed until the next Monday, March, the 22nd. However, please, do every effort for submitting your abstracts before that new deadline. I cannot guarantee that abstracts received after the 22nd can be included in the Volume. Since the Extended Abstracts Volume will include the Scientific Program, the posters and oral communications for which you have not sent an abstract will not figure in that Scientific Program.

Enough preaching. Just let me say that I am looking forward to see you all in August. Hasta pronto,

Fran.

MEETING CALENDAR

August, the 8th : arrival; fetching at the Barajas airport in Madrid will be arranged (several turns). A bus will take us to the Residencia, where you will settle and pay for your rooms and meals (see details below). Informal welcome and dinner (lunch also available).

August 9-12 : four days of Scientific Sessions. It is four days in order to try to have a relaxed meeting, and also because the price of the Residencia is very reasonable and many of you will have done long trips.

August, the 13th : field trip to Las Hoyas and Cuenca (museum). It is a one-day trip, leaving early in the morning from, and arriving for dinner at, the Residencia.

August, the 14th : departure after breakfast; transportation to Barajas airport and to Madrid itself will be arranged (also on the 13th, if there is a number of you who do not come to the field trip; public transportation is always assured).

LODGING, PRICES, AND FIELD TRIP

The Residencia has room for about 70 people. We are some 90 attendants in this moment, although a good number are not confirmed. Lodging at the Residencia is not guaranteed for all of you, regrettably, although those who sent their inscriptions and abstracts within the deadlines will have preference. In any case, I will arrange lodging in, and transportation from and to, hotels in the nearby village of as many people as necessary. In due time, sometime late this spring, those of you who cannot lodge at the Residencia will be individually informed, after all inscriptions fees are received and paid for. Do not worry about that.

The price of the Residencia is about 65 euros per person per day , accompanying attendants included (35 for accompanying children staying in their parents' room: ask me for details). This price comprises the room and all meals . For those people lodging outside the Residencia, meals will be arranged at the Residencia for some 33 euros per day. There is only one menu per meal; if you have special diet requirements, please specify in your payment fee sheet below, we need to know in advance.
IMPORTANT : payment of the Residencia is due upon arrival to the Residencia in cash only and euros only when "checking in" at the reception desk, where you will receive the documents of the meeting. Payment of hotels in the nearby village is to be arranged individually. You will have plenty of time to change money at the airport after your arrival, if you need to.

The field trip is free of extra charge . You only need to plan to stay at the Residencia until the 14th (leaving after breakfast). Attendants who do not wish to make the field trip should plan to leave on the 13th, and will simply need to pay one day less at the Residencia.

PAYMENT OF INSCRIPTION FEE

All attendants are requested to pay the inscription fee , including accompanying attendants and attendants funded by the meeting organization. The only exemption to this payment is accompanying children who lodge with their parents in the same room.

Payment of inscription fee will begin on April, the 1st. All payments received after May the 31st will have an extra charge of 20 euros .

Payment by credit card is strongly encouraged . This payment will be directly and safely handled by the central services of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, who handle the bank account of the meeting.

Payment by bank transfer will have an extra charge of 20 euros.

Please choose one payment form at the end of the circular ( one only ). Fill, copy, paste, and E-mail it to: francisco.poyato@uam.es

Or (alternatively, but not preferably) print, fill, and mail to:

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Many of you have applied for funds. We are actively searching for funds for as many of you as we can, but it is obvious that it will be impossible to obtain funds for most of those who have applied. Actually, getting funds is being much harder than expected, but be sure that we are doing our best. So, we do encourage you all very strongly to try to get funds from your own institutions or countries. Begin your active search as soon as possible in order to secure your being able to attend the meeting in case the meeting organization is unable to fund you.

Funds by the meeting organization will consist of the full payment of the Residencia or hotel plus meals. Attendants to receive funds will be contacted personally as soon as we will receive final confirmation from all the fund sources applied to by the organization. Funded attendants will be requested to pay the inscription fee and to have submitted abstract(s) of their presentation(s).

Do not hesitate to contact me for comments, doubts, information...whatever!

It will be wonderful to see you in the meeting.

Friendly,

Fran.
