Laura Pillay
position Ph.D. Student
project Laura is studying early blood cell differentiation and how it is regulated by Hox genes and retinoic acid. She is also developing the technology for nuclease-mediated knockout zebrafish.

Vanessa Holly
position Visiting Research Technician
project Vanessa is a former MSc student in the laboratory and has returned to help us with TALEN mutagenesis. She is also currently attending Vet school in Saskatooon.
email vholly@ualberta.ca
Lindsey March
position M.Sc. Student
project Lindsey is characterizing a mutant in Crx and making one in Otx5. These will be essential in understanding photoreceptor differentiation
email lmarch@ualberta.ca
Lyndsay Selland
position Ph.D. Student
project Lyndsay is studying the function of Hox genes. She has created multiple Talen-mediate Hox mutants and is currently using ChIP-Seq to identify targets of Hox proteins.
email selland@ualberta.ca
Jen Hocking
position Postdoctoral Fellow
project Jen is studying the mechanisms of photoreceptor differentiation, with a particular focus on cell adhesion and BMP-dependent pathways of cone maturation.
email jhocking@ualberta.ca
Sonya Widen
position M.Sc. Student
project Sonya is studying Sfrp proteins and their role in early retinal development. She is also collaborating with a lab at the NIH to identify novel disease-causing loci involved with LCA, an early onset retinal dystrophy.
email widen@ualberta.ca
Tara Stach
position Ph.D. Student
project Tara is studying the superior fissure, a novel structure that forms in the dorsal retina. She is currently examining RA, BMP, and Fox pathways and their role in regulating this novel structure.
email stach@ualberta.ca
Caroline Cheng
position Ph.D. Student
project Caroline is studying the pathway of enzymes that synthesize retinoic acid. She is working with aldh1a3 mutants and creating novel mutations in bcmo and bcdo (two enzymes that cleave beta-carotene). She hopes to understand how the embryo creates asymmetric localization of retinoic acid in the hindbrain and retina.

Jen Weekes
position Ms.C. Student
project Jen is studying early retinal development. She is creating Medaka mutants to study retinoic acid signaling. She is also studying the early functions of Lhx5 in zebrafish forebrain development.
