Welcome to the Industrial Internship Program (IIP) of the Department of Biological Sciences. You have found a growing program in a growing exciting department where education of undergraduate students is a high priority.
The Industrial Internship Program formally integrates a student's university education with work experience in co-operating employer organizations. It offers undergraduate students, between the third and fourth year of study, paid work experience in a corporate or government setting.
Internship is for a continuous single-work period of 8, 12, or 16 months. Eligible students must be in good standing in an Honors or Specialization Program in Biological Sciences (see section 193.3.5, university calendar, for more information).
Everyone benefits in this program. Students gain valuable work experience, applying principles learned in the classroom to the real world. Employers, through investment in young scientists, are rewarded with solid research and development work by the student employee, community support and closer connections with the University of Alberta and the programs therein that might benefit the industrial sponsor in the short and long-term. Occasionally, the intern returns to the sponsor following graduation providing a career-long investment.
