How to Apply
This page and the documents listed are intended for individuals who have been instructed by the department to proceed with the application for graduation admission:
- Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada
- Citizens of the U.S., the U.K, Australia or New Zealand
- International applicants
Before submitting an application, you need to correspond directly with academic staff in whose research laboratories you might want to study. If a supervisor is particularly interested in your application, you stand a greater chance of being accepted. This is particularly critical for PhD applicants.
The February 1 deadline is a 'soft' deadline. We continue to accept applications and supporting documents after February 1, however the availability of funding is reduced the later you apply.
Supporting documents along with reference letters and transcripts (mailed directly from referees and post-secondary institutions) should be sent to us at:
Department of Biological Sciences
University of Alberta
Canada T6G 2E9
Applicants are responsible for tracking their application documents and must ensure that all supporting documents have been received by logging onto BearTracks. Applications will not be reviewed until all supporting material has arrived. (Our department does NOT have a set document deadline date.)
Current and former U of A students do not need to submit U of A transcripts.
