Format 

Biological Sciences Recruitment Subsidy 

Faculty members are limited to a maximum of one recruitment subsidy per year. The subsidy maximum is $500. Potential student should have excellent qualifications.

Program requirements

Format

Registration: A graduate student should consult with his/her supervisor prior to selecting courses for the incoming year. The following document is provided at the department orientation to assist students with registration. Specific details on how to maintain a full-time registration as well as thesis section registration are included.

Travel

Format 

A student may apply for financial subsidy for travel to conferences from 3 sources. Each may be requested only once during a program, so plan carefully. They may be combined for one trip. Application must be made before the travel. 

Bio Sci Travel Form

The subsidy is valued at a maximum of $300 per student. Presentation (oral or poster) required.

FGSR Travel Award Application

This trip should involve attending a major national or international research gathering where you must be actively participating by presenting a paper or poster session.
As of November 26, 2012:
We regret to inform you that the Travel Awards have reached the maximum applicants for the period from June 2012 - March 2013. Travel awards are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis and the FGSR will offer as many travel awards as the endowments and the annual funding will support. New applications submitted for travel after April 1, 2013 and before March 31, 2014 will be considered after April 1, 2013, pending availability of funds and retroactive applications will not be considered.

    FGSR requires a minimum of 3 examiners at the MSc exam, one of which must be an arm's length examiner.

AT LEAST 4 WEEKS AHEAD:

  • Notice of Examination Form (Supervisors)  

Please complete and forward the following form to the Graduate Student Services Office(CW 312, Biological Sciences Building) at least 4 weeks in advance of the examination date.

BEFORE THESIS SUBMISSION:

  • Request to Restrict Access to a Thesis

If circumstances arise that justify restricting access to a thesis for a specified period of time (to a maximum of one year), students must complete and submit this form with supporting documentation. The request must be made prior to the submission of the Thesis Approval/ Program Completion form to FGSR.

  1. External Examiner - Off Campus (Supervisors)

Please complete and forward the following form to the Biological Sciences Graduate Student Services Office (CW 312, Biological Sciences Building) at least 9 weeks of the examination date.

AT LEAST 5 WEEKS AHEAD:

  1. Preliminary Acceptance Form for PhD Thesis

The supervisory committee must sign, indicating that they have read the thesis and that the thesis is defendable. The committee is given one week (students, please inform your committee well ahead of time).

  1. Nomination of the arm's length examiners (Supervisors)  NEW 

FGSR requires a minimum of 5 examiners at the PhD exam, two of which must be an arm's length examiners.

  1. Notice of Examination Form (Supervisors)

Please complete and forward the following form to the Graduate Student Services Office(CW 312, Biological Sciences Building) at least 4 weeks in advance of the examination date.
