Protocols for selection of nominations by the Parasitology Section Recognition Committee for Honorary Life Membership in the Parasitology Section and the Canadian Society of Zoologists (CSZ)

1. Honorary Life Memberships in the Parasitology Section and in the Canadian Society of Zoologists are awarded for outstanding contributions to Parasitology and to Zoology, respectively.

2. Each voting committee member can propose names for Honorary Life Membership in the Parasitology Section and the Canadian Society of Zoologists.

3. A list of candidates for each type of Life Membership is compiled by the committee chair.

4. The lists are open for discussion among the Recognition Committee members.

5. A vote is taken. Each voting member can vote for a maximum of 3 people. The chair tabulates the vote.

6. Nominees must be unanimous choices among members.

7. A maximum of two (2) names can be put forward each year for each list.

8. The chair does not vote, except in the case of a tie.

9. If the committee cannot agree unanimously on a choice, the chair at his/her discretion, can work toward achieving a consensus among the group to recommend a name. This permits the selection of candidates in the case of a very strong field, where unanimity on a voting basis may be difficult to achieve.

10. The nominees for Section Life Membership (a maximum of two) are proposed to the Parasitology Section. These names are considered at the annual meeting of the Section. The Parasitology Section then names Life Members to the Section (requiring ¾ approval at the Section general meeting) The nominees for the CSZ Life Membership (a maximum of two) are forwarded to the CSZ for consideration as CSZ Honorary Life Members at the following December executive meeting of the CSZ. These nominations may be endorsed by a majority vote of the Parasitology Section.
