Scolex

The scolex is the attachment organ of cestodes. It is located at the anterior end and makes use of an array of different building blocks.

Some scoleces have only suckers (S). Hymenolepis (top) has a rostellum (R) but it lacks hooks or spines.

Some scoleces, such as this Lateriporus (top) and Dipylidium (bottom), have suckers (S) and hooks (H). The hooks are on a rostellum (R).

Some scoleces have bothria (arrows).

Some scoleces have loculi.

Cyathocephalus has single loculus (L).

Echeneibothrium has four phyllidea (arrows), each with numerous loculi.

Trypanorhynch scoleces have a combination of bothridia and hook-covered tentacles.
