The Protozoa are an extremely diverse assemblage of species, in morphology, life cycles and modes of reproduction. Most are free living. The parasitic species vary in their modes of transmission, and level of pathological response by their hosts.
Diseases caused by protozoans are among the most devastating of all parasitic infections to humans and wildlife.
