Schistosoma male

The male in this photo is situated ventral side to the right (the acetabulum is always ventral), anterior end to the top. It is a stout worm, about 15 mm long by 0.8 mm wide. The oral sucker and pedunculate acetabulum are prominent. The gynecophoric canal can be seen running the length of the body posterior to the acetabulum, and the dark zig-zagging body is one of the intestinal ceca, dark because the worm has been feeding on blood.
