Paragonimus in situ

This is a cross section of lung tissue containing a large Paragonimus individual in the top center of the photo. Note the thickened tissue surrounding the parasite compared to the more normal tissue at the lower left of the photo. It is difficult to identify parasites in tissue section. This is clearly a Platyhelminthes because the body is filled with parenchyma, and at higher magnification it would be possible to determine that it is a digenean and not a larval tapeworm because the gut would be visible and so would the body spination.
