Heligmosomoides L3

This third stage larva clearly shows some of the major morphological structures that are characteristic of nematode larvae. The rounded end is the anterior, and the pointed end is the posterior. The mouth is simple, leading into a slender esophagus that narrows and then expands at its posterior end, just anterior to the first bend in the larva's body. The posterior of the body is filled with the intestine. You should be able to discern the narrow intestinal lumen and the wide band of intestinal cells on each side of it.
