The miracidium escapes the egg via an operculum. Depending on digenean species, the location of the operculum varies in visibility before the egg actually hatches. Presumably the operculum is weakened by chemical secretions from the miracidium when it is fully developed and ready to hatch, allowing the miracidium to easily push its way out.
