Echinostoma adult

This relatively large (15mm) echinostome has a long, slender body. Details of the anterior end (top of photo) are not clear at this magnification, but just posterior is a very large acetabulum. Posterior to the acetabulum are lateral bands of vitellaria which extend to the posterior of the body. Posterior to the acetabulum are coils of the uterus, black because the eggs were not properly dehydrated during specimen preparation. Posterior to the uterus is a round ovary, and just behind that is a seminal receptacle. Two irregularly-shaped testes are located in tandem further posterior.
