This small (0.5 mm) miracidium clearly shows the extent of cilia on the body surface which propel it in its search for a mollusc first intermediate host. The small protrusion is located at the anterior end of the miracidium. Miracidia can move quickly relative to their size, several mm per second. They only live for a few hours.
