Hymenolepis cysticercoid

The anterior end of the cysticercoid is multilayered. The actual tapeworm scolex in the middle of the photo contains calcareous corpuscles, which are numerous in two clusters at the anterior end of the scolex and are fewer and scattered in the posterior half of the scolex. The function of the calcareous corpuscles is unknown, but is presumably metabolic.

In the posterior of the scolex you may be able to make out the outline of the suckers; the one on the right side is much clearer than the one on the left.
