Glaridacris

This photo shows the anterior (top left of the photo) and posterior (lower right) ends of a single adult tapeworm, about 4 cm long. The scolex is prominent with large loculi present to aid attachment to the intestine of the host. These parasites are monozoic and consequently are not divided into proglottids. Testes and vitellaria are present throughout the anterior of the body. The testes are the larger spheres and the vitellaria the smaller ones. In the posterior portion of the body there are some vitellaria at the terminus. Proceeding anteriorly is a large mass which contains the ovary and, anterior to it, the uterus. The most anterior portion of the uterus has numerous black eggs visible within it, but the junction between ovary and uterus is not distinct in this photo.
