Cotylaspis

Details of the life cycle are poorly understood. In general, adults are parasites of freshwater bivalve molluscs. Eggs deposited within the mollusc may hatch and complete 4 phases of larval development, eventually becoming another adult in the same host. Other eggs may leave the mollusc and hatch on the pond bottom. The early larval stages can infect another mollusc if they are taken in the respiratory currents.
