Trichuris

Adult worms live in the colon of mammals. They have fairly high host specificity. After mating, females release eggs that pass in the feces while still unembryonated. An L1 develops in the egg and is infective to the next host. After ingestion, the egg hatches in the intestine and the L1 undergoes 4 molts to become an adult. Males die soon after mating, so it is common to find natural infections where only females are present.
