The unilocular hydatid appears externally as a single, more or less spherical structure. The wall is complex, with layers of host cells externally and layers of parasite origin internally. The inner lining is a germinative epithelium that gives rise to internal brood capsules and protoscoleces. The cyst is fluid-filled.
