Adult Echinococcus

(Redrawn after Brown and Belding 1964)

The body has a limited number of proglottids. There is usually a scolex, and one each of immature, mature and gravid proglottids. The scolex has both hooks and suckers for attachment. The reproductive system is typical of cyclophyllideans, with a posterior ovary and compact vitellarium, mutiple testes, and a lateral genital pore. The gravid proglottid contains an unbranched, sac-like uterus.
