The retractable proboscis is housed withina proboscis sheath. The proboscis is covered externally by curved hooks. Internally, it is fluid filled and has a retractor muscle that pulls the tip outside in. Inside the body there are additional retractor muscles that pull the entire proboscis apparatus. The lemnisci connect to the lacunae that permeate the body wall.
