Pseudocyst of Toxoplasma

(Redrawn after Brown and Belding 1964)

When Toxoplasma infects heart, brain or skeletal musculature large numbers of trophozoites develop and accumulate within host cells. These are often given the special name "bradyzoites." The cysts are known as pseudocysts (based on the assumption that the cyst wall is of host origin) or "zoitocysts."
