University of Alberta Conference Funds

The University Conference Fund has been modified to provide more streamlined access to this funding. In lieu of regular competitions that are adjudicated centrally, the funds have been allocated to the Faculties for distribution at their discretion in support of suitable University-hosted conferences. Please contact your Research Facilitation Office (betty.peavey@ualberta.ca) to apply for support to host a conference.

Worldwide Universities Network

The Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) is a global alliance of 16 research intensive universities drawn from the UK, Europe, North America, China and Australia. The WUN Research Development Fund offers grants of up to £15,000 to support research collaborations. Programs may include exploratory research initiatives, targeted workshops, faculty exchanges and the formation of collaborative networks, among other activities. Applications that incorporate a research mobility component for early career researchers and postgraduate students are encouraged. The internal U of A adjudication deadline is October 29, 2010.

The Research Mobility Fund provides support for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and research staff to establish and cultivate international research collaboration by spending time abroad at another WUN institution. These funded placements may vary in length (up to a maximum three months) and can be related to a wide variety of research areas. Applications for this type of funding are accepted on a continuous basis.

Please contact Dr. Stefan Scherer in the local WUN office within the Office of the Provost and Vice-President for more information about both opportunities.
