International Student Work Study Program – Fall/Winter 2008/2009
The International Student Work Study Program (ISWSP) was launched in 2004 with funding from the international undergraduate differential fees. This program was created to encourage campus employers to hire international undergraduate students and to provide opportunities for international undergraduate students to gain Canadian work experience.

Approved positions will receive a subsidy of $7.00/per hour to a maximum of $3,500.

Students hired under this program must be University of Alberta full time fee paying international undergraduate students during the preceding academic year (students paying international differential fees).

Students must intend on returning to the University of Alberta on a full time basis in the next academic year.

Approved positions must comply with the pay grades in the current collective agreement. Currently a student hired at a step 1 of a grade level 1 would be paid $12.81 per hour.

Applications will be assessed based on a number of factors, including:

  • quality of work experience to be gained by the student
  • hourly salary offered by the department
  • number of weeks of employment and the number of hours per week

Preference may be given to departments who have not received funding in the past.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received until the maximum funding has been reached or until September 30, 2008. It is highly recommended that applications be made as early as possible.

You will be advised whether your application has been approved or denied within two weeks of submitting your request. Information on recruiting will be provided with approved applications.

The application form can be found here.
