Research Interests

Research in my lab focuses on host-pathogen interactions in order to understand and exploit virulence mechanisms used by bacteria. We have a continuous interest in the mechanisms of synthesis of bacterial surface glycoconjugates, particularly lipolysaccharide (LPS) and glycoproteins, and their role in bacterial pathogenesis.

Currently, work in my lab can be divided in three main projects:

1) Mechanisms of O-linked protein glycosylation in bacteria and its exploitation in vaccine design through glycoengineering

2) Protein glycosylation and other virulence factors of the emerging pathogen Acinetobacter baumannii.

3) Biogenesis of outer membrane vesicles.
