It is with sadness that we inform you that Graham Griffiths, a long time associate of the Strickland Museum and a world expert on anthomyiid flies, died in Athabasca on 3 May, 2009 from cancer. A memorial ceremony will be held on Thursday 28 May, 2009 at 3:30PM at the Muskeg Creek Chalet (a log cabin at 56 Street and 49 Avenue) in Athabasca. Immediately following the ceremony and as a tribute to Graham, there will be a Spring Flower Count on the nearby Muskeg Creek Trials.

My main entomological work is in dipterology. Currently I am working toward completion of my monograph of North American anthomyiids (root maggots, etc.) in the Flies of the Nearctic Region series (of which I am editor). So far 15 issues (2635 pages) have been published. My other current major project is production of an English translation of the multivolume Flora of the Russian Arctic under the editorship of John Packer. I was the first chairman of the Council for International Congresses of Dipterology from 1986 to 1994. I earned my Ph. D. in 1971 from the Department of Entomology at the University of Alberta, and had a long association with that department until its merger with the Department of Biological Sciences.

My publications are available as follows:
