Flow patterns around pupa of Neocurupira hudsoni (Blephariceridae)

image These flow patterns were derived by video recording dye streamlines while observing both dorsal (upper) and lateral (lower) views.
Note that there is a pair of matched vortices downstream from the lamellate gills. Also of importance is the solenoid vortex upstream and basal to the gills.

Remember that vortices are regions of low pressure and that the solubility of gas in water is determined in part by pressure.
