In vitro manipulation of genes with an emphasis on applications to biotechnology. Bacterial, yeast, plant, and animal vector systems. Enzymology of DNA manipulation. Electrophoresis of nucleic acids and proteins. Hybridization techniques for the identification of nucleic acids sequences. cDNA and genomic DNA cloning and screening. In vitro mutagenesis. Prerequisite: BIOL 207; BIOCH 200 or 205 or BIOCH 220; GENET 270 recommended.
