Calendar Description

*3 (fi 6) (first term, 3-1s-0). Mechanisms of Evolution. 
Discusses the major features of the evolutionary process, including the fossil record, basic population genetics, variation, natural selection, adaptation, and speciation. Seminars involve critiquing scientific literature and problem-solving in evolutionary genetics. Prerequisites: BIOL 108 and 207. SCI 100 may be used in lieu of BIOL 108.

BIOL 321 will be offered Sept. - Dec. 2011

Seminars:
When you register for BIOL 321 in BearTracks you will be placed in a "TBA" seminar. Iin previous years, these seminars were operated as non-mandatory help sessions.  This year (2011) we are trialling a Moodle-based web forum instead.

Textbook:
Douglas J. Futuyma. 2009. Evolution. Second Edition. Sinauer Associates, Inc., Sunderland, Mass., 633 pages. There are two formats in the U of A Bookstore, a looseleaf version (~$80) and a hardcover version (~$135).  

The text book has a companion website.
