Ancestral Habitats
Sediments show that the early angiosperms lived & evolved in a fluvial regime on sites of relatively high disturbance with moderate amounts of alluviation (Doyle and Hickey, 1976).
Sites characterized by high nutrient levels & frequent loss of plant cover due to periodic disturbances (Taylor and Hickey, 1996).
Ecological models of living plants & ecosystems can be used to predict the types of adaptation & habit that would be present in such environments.
