SUMMER RESEARCH ASSISTANT -- BOREAL PEATLANDS IN MANITOBA

 

 
 

 

 

 

 

 


    

 

 


POSITION:    A research assistant is required from late May – early September to assist in a peatland ecology research project at Duck Mountain, Manitoba. Duties include assisting with water chemistry, soil surveys, forest mensuration, vegetation surveys, laboratory work, and whatever else comes up. We will be in Manitoba for 2-3 week periods throughout the summer. Days can be long and there are blackflies and mosquitoes, but Duck Mountain is a beautiful place.

 

EXPERIENCE:  Applicants must have a sincere interest in ecology, have a good work ethic, and be able to work independently. A valid driver’s license is required and experience with 4x4 trucks and ATVs would be beneficial. Training will be provided but candidates with field and laboratory experience are preferred. Knowledge of boreal ecology, forest mensuration, and biogeochemistry is desirable. Applicants must be physically fit and enjoy working outdoors in all types of weather.

 

REMUNERATION: $1350.00 - $1800/month depending on experience. Transportation, food, and lodging (ATCO trailers) in the field are provided.
